Boxed Game Description
Description of Pensacola, The Struggle for Florida in the American Revolution, 1781
Publisher: GMT Games, LLC Designers: Mark S. Miklos and Don Hanle.
Pensacola is a 2 player game of the battle that removed the British, permanently, from North America south of Canada. It culminated the effort of a bold and brave Spaniard, Don Bernardo de Galvez, who removed all the British armed forces from the Mississippi, then Mobile, and finally Pensacola, which was the most important fortress in Florida.
It wasn’t easy. In this campaign alone, de Galvez had the Governor of Cuba give him all his troops, ships and supplies to fight a battle that the Governor was convinced was hopeless. De Galvez got the troops – he had convinced the King of Spain that he was a winner, and he was to be given whatever it took. De Galvez convinced the French to send troops, too.
This battle is a siege, starting with the landing of troops, building a road to haul siege cannon across near-swampland, fighting Indians, British sorties and mosquitoes, to then bombard a fort that was fiercely defended and well fortified. It came down to a fortuitous event on the last day de Galvez had his full force, as the French were about to leave.
Moderate complexity, good Solitaire Suitability. Contains a 22 x 34 inch Map, Series and Battle Scenario Books, four Player Aid Cards, 166 Counters, 55 Event Cards and 16 Tactics Cards, and two 10-sided dice.
